Mark your calendars! Meander Art Crawl, Sept 30, Oct 1 & 2, 2011
September 19th, 2011
We’re delighted to share information on the Arts Meander – one of our favorite events of the year…
Meander Arts Crawl 2011 continues 8th year with “What goes around, comes around”
The 2011 Meander, the Upper Minnesota River Art Crawl, will take place on September 30th, October 1st and October 2nd.For thousands of years art and culture have had their beginnings along the great river valleys. Some things never change.
On the first weekend of October follow the Minnesota River Valley from Granite Falls all the way to beautiful Big Stone Lake north of Ortonville and see remarkable art and artists.
It’s a long weekend full of art, music, entertainment and food. It’s a chance to take to the road to enjoy the quiet, lovely, fall scenery and revel in the exuberance of the talented artists and artisans who make this such a special place to live and visit.
This is the 8th annual art Meander, a free self guided tour of artists studios featuring 45 local artists from the Upper Minnesota River Valley. The studios will be open starting Friday Sept 30th from 2 pm -6 pm, Saturday Oct 1st from 9 am -6 pm and Sunday Oct 2 from 9 am to 4 pm. A free brochure detailing the locations of the studios will be sent to anyone who calls 1-866-866-5432. This brochure can also be downloaded from the web at www.artsmeander.com. Share the weekend with friends and family visiting a wide variety of artisans and artists in their studios.
New artists this year include Martha Roisen Alvarado, a fiber artist showing on her home farm place, the Lac qui Parle Valley Vineyards near Dawson, Corey Speh, wood artist showing at Hinterlands Vineyard near Clara City, and Tom and Delite Ludvigson, furniture artists showing at their home south of Madison.
This year the Meander Kickoff Event on Friday, September 30 will be in downtown Granite Falls, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. featuring music, food and entertainment. For more information on this event, contact Nicole Zempel at 320-564-4039.
On Saturday night, October 1st, A Night of Jazz with Nancy Harms will be playing in Dawson at 7:30 p.m. Harms is a native of Clara City and is coming from her current home of New York City to perform in Dawson. Tickets will be available at the door and for more information please contact the Dawson-Boyd Arts Association at 320-769-2955×246 or at www.dawsonboydarts.org.
The Meander featured artist for 2011 is Kerry Kolke-Bonk. A painter who lives near Appleton, she does watercolor, acrylic, and collage work. She’s lived in or near Appleton for nearly 35 years and her Meander brochure painting exhibits that history and insight by its portrayal of an old windmill, white coneflowers, and modern wind turbines,” What goes around comes around”.
This three day event showcases some of the best of what western Minnesota has to offer.
A portrait of the old, the new, and the never changing and only a brief sample of what awaits you on the river trail. Visit www.artsmeander.org to plan your trip to this fall’s Meander.
