Pam Lehmann speaks to Blandin Broadband Strategy Board

September 2nd, 2010

Earlier this week, Pam Lehmann spoke about Lac qui Parle’s broadband history and strides. It was a great exercise to look back at the planting of broadband seeds in 2007, the efforts we put in to cultivate those seed and the fruition we’ve experienced this summer from the Computer Commuter unveiling to the announcement of the ARRA funds. We’re looking forward to whatever happens next.

MPR highlights LqP FTTH plan

August 12th, 2010

Broadband is already keeping us busy here in LqP. We will be launching the Commuter Computer on August 25. We are still buzzing with last week’s news of our successful ARRA broadband application. Now we are getting some nice recognition for our efforts from sources such as Minnesota Public Radio.

Yesterday Dave Peters wrote a nice history of our broadband initiatives for Ground Level, an online MPR feature that focuses on how Minnesota communities, especially rural communities, are facing the future.

I encourage you to check it out and post a comment. We’re pleased that Dave recognized that (as he put it) we followed a recipe for rural broadband that included a wide range of ingredients, such as input from local residents, support from local foundations and policymakers and great partners (Farmers Mutual Telephone Company and U-reka Broadband).

Madison City Administrator Radermacher expressed the excitement we all share in a comment to one of Peters’ earlier article on broadband:

As a resident of Lac qui Parle County, I have already witnessed that just the possibly of the connection of broadband for everyone in our county is enough to ignite economic development, and now that it is a reality I anticipate upon completion the initial investment to fully ablaze the potential that is being withheld in this region.

All with the ability to development economically without sacrificing the existing benefits of environment and culture that have kept these communities and areas around for well over a hundred years.
